Marquita uses a holistic approach to fitness that addresses stress management, nutrition, sleep, hydration, and physical activity. I'm not a major "success story" yet but in the few months I've been working with Marquita, I have made some major lifestyle (mental and emotional) adjustments that have made it possible for me to be more consistent with all of the elements that contribute to wellness. I appreciate that Marquita's focus isn't solely on the numbers on the scale but rather how a person feels and how they can improve their wellness and fitness to maximize their life. Although my goal is to lose 150 pounds, that is not my primary objective. My primary objective is to achieve and maintain an active lifestyle in which I'm managing my stress better and being more aware of how small consistent changes can have huge impacts on my well-being. Marquita has been helping me get the tools and confidence to achieve this and I am very thankful for her energy, professionalism, knowledge, and encouragement.

Marquita has been an integral part of my weight loss success! After 45 years of being overweight, I finally decided I needed to do something different. I weighed 289 lbs in January 2014. My father had just died, and I finally looked at my mortality. I am a single mom of a 12 year old, and I wanted to see her as an adult, and live longer than I was going to, being 124 lbs overweight. I began an eating plan, and went to the gym. I've lost 117 lbs since then, and am within 7 lbs of my goal weight. Marquita has always given me great training, challenges me every time, gives me positive feedback, and great nutritional and psychological tips. She is always upbeat, kind, & motivating. Even more exciting than the weight loss, she's been instrumental in my transformation into an athlete, which in my whole life, I had never been. But now I'm at 98% fitness level in all areas, run 3 miles every other day, do an hour on the treadmill daily, and am training for a triathlon. Life is a joy, and I've lengthened my lifespan, I'm sure. I've gained strength and confidence as a result of both individual training and group training with Marquita.

    Marquita changed my life!!

I am 51 and never really had a weight problem until I reached my mid 40's. After I had a hysterectomy back in 2008 I was put on hormones and I was the biggest I had ever been. I was almost 210 and my size 16 clothes were getting tight. I had tried many diets and work out regimens over the last few years and would lose 10 or 15 lbs hear and there but it would never stay off. In April this year I had a yearly physical and my doctor informed me that my cholesterol was too high and that if I did not get it down with diet and exercise she would have to try me on medication. I was a member of another gym but it was not convenient for me and i didn't really seem to get the coaching and guidance I needed. My daughter told me about Gold's so I decided in May to give it a try. That is where I met Marquita and she has changed my life! She knew exactly what I needed to get started and took baby steps with me at first so that I wouldn't get discouraged and give up. She taught me things I never knew before about working out and nutrition and the lbs started melting away. I was losing 2lbs a week and after three months I had dropped two sizes and 27 lbs. I went back to have my cholesterol checked and it had gone from 242 to 198. My doctor was very pleased and told me to keep doing what I was doing! NO MEDICATION!! I owe it all to Marquita and have thanked her a million times for changing my life and giving me my self esteem and confidence back again but wanted to share my story with everyone! You are the best Marquita and I feel so blessed to have you in my life! :) Terri

    My Weight Loss Testimony

What an exciting journey it’s been from overweight at 226 pounds, size 22, unfit, asthmatic, diabetic, and short of breath to “Look at me now!” at 130 pounds and size 4!

By the time I joined Gold’s Gym in August 2010, I had already lost 10 pounds but was so fed up with myself, as well as sick and desperate. I decided immediately to get a trainer since exercise was just another four letter word to me and besides that I had absolutely no idea where to start.

In my initial meeting with Marquita, I agreed to a diet plan and hitting the gym five days a week. I thought to myself, “Really?” But, after my first month I was down 10 pounds and 10 inches. As Marquita, “the little dynamo” knows, I am VERY results driven. All I needed was the proof in the pudding! Of course I whined – ‘I’m tired,. How many more?...Easy for you to say, you’re just watching.’ And what would Ms. Dynamo do? Start running in place with me, smiling, and ask “Is that better? Now keep going!” Always with that big smile of hers, of course!

I truly learned more about exercise physiology, body fat composition, the nutritional effects of carbohydrates, proteins and their effect on weight loss than I have in my many years as a health professional. It is just not taught in the medical community. Thank you Marquita!
