I am a Ph.D. graduate of Arizona State University, in Physical Activity, Nutrition and Wellness. I am currently a National Institutes of Health (NIH)-funded Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Michigan, Medicine. I am also an adjunct professor of Human Movement at AT Still University and a senior health/fitness consultant for Liberty Athletic Club. Prior to coming to the UofM, my research endeavors included examining performance enhancement strategies for various populations, as well as advanced exercise prescription for hierarchical muscle adaptation. My current and future research agenda is focused on family-based exercise interventions for obese pediatrics, resistance exercise for sarcopenia and healthy aging, and intermuscular adipose tissue infiltration and secondary muscle impairment among patients with cerebral palsy. As a result of these cumulative directives, I have been able to present my work at many national and international conferences, and have published numerous peer-reviewed research manuscripts. I have also been asked to contribute to several text books related to exercise testing and prescription, and my work has been prominently featured by National Public Radio (NPR), Fox News, Newsweek, Bloomberg, United Press International (UPI), Science Daily, Men’s Health, Muscular Development, and Fitness Rx.

Additionally, I have had the opportunity to teach health promotion, applied exercise science, kinesiology, and sport performance enhancement at the undergraduate and graduate levels, for the last seven years. As a practitioner, I have worked in personal training and strength and conditioning for the last 11 years, and have been involved with hundreds of athletes at the high school, collegiate and professional level. I have also worked extensively with various firefighter academies and departments, to complete research and professional training. I am a certified strength and conditioning specialist with distinction (CSCS*D) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association, as well as certified Sports Performance Coach through the United States Weightlifting Association (USAW). I am an Associate Editor for the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research, and an expert advisor for Livestrong.
