Marisa VanDyke

Springfield, VA 22152

I am credentialed as a Myofascial Release Therapist, Personal Trainer, Yoga Instructor, and Occupational Therapist. I combine 7 years of specialized fitness consulting with a medical degree and manual therapy skills to create a truly unique opportunity for clients to reach their optimal health while getting highly individualized programming and personal attention.

Myofascial release therapy targets the body's soft tissue through gentle, sustained pressure on restricted areas. This complementary and/or alternative medicine approach is used to treat skeletal muscle immobility and pain.

Occupational therapy services target the re-creation of a satisfying lifestyle after life/health changes. This includes management of weight or health conditions, prevention of recurrent pain, and balance of physical & emotional demands of daily life.

It is impossible to treat a client holistically without considering the impact that their physical condition has on their spirit. Therefore, all therapies include the mental health and happiness of clients. I'm an intermediary member of the healthcare team, and help people transition from reliance on medical intervention to the habits which allow them to maintain their own health.

I met Marisa a year ago, after an injury I received while hiking. I didn’t want to have surgery & knew there had to be a way to recover without a hefty medical bill. After an online search I found Marisa. I wanted to find a personal trainer that was geared more towards recovery, balance training, building strength, muscle & endurance. I am a fitness nut. I love the great outdoors, but I am a klutz. I know a lot about cardio, but lack the knowledge concerning proper weight training or balance training for that matter. I am stronger now than I ever was before my injury. It took me almost a year to recover. This is the best my knee has felt in a long time. I still see Marisa on a weekly basis. I suppose I don’t need a trainer anymore for my knee, but I love to pick at the knowledge she has & while we work hard, she makes it fun. Come January, I’m going to switch from strength training to learning how to swim. She knows I’m an activities junky more than a gym junky & believes that swimming will provide a well rounded activity balance for me. Right now, I swim like a rock. Hopefully in a few months I’ll swim like Labrador, but realistically I’ll probably swim like a frog. ;)…. Marisa is personable, knowledgeable and likeable. I would recommend her to anyone, whether you are recovering from an injury or just want to learn new things. She is a great trainer and a good person and I am fortunate to have met her.
