Dr. Luque, this article is most enlightening and enriching for me regarding pre-menopause and perimenopause. I recently came across physiological issues associated with BP and exercise during menopause. Additional to the emotional, mental, and psychological factors you point out, your reference to Endocrinal factors have given me food for thought for extrapolating on other possible influences on physiological affects of exercise during perimenopause. You have also reinforced my sensitivities of the vulnerabilities and the critical importance for understanding the issues of perimenopause. As instructors and trainers we not only have to understand, be aware of, and adapt to welfare needs of individuals; deeper understanding of the why and how certainly bolsters our delivery and rapport with participants. You definitely do this with your sharing of your knowledge and information. Coming across information such as this helps me be a more improved and better fitness-health professional. Thank-you for this article contribution.

Dr. Maria is THE BEST!!! I started working out with her almost ten years ago. I was always active, fit, and participated in sports as a kid but couldn't figure out how to fit it in once I sat at a desk 40 hours a week. I could motivate myself to run around town lake or take an aerobics class, but I didn't like lifting weights. Maria makes it fun and is so knowledgeable (has a PhD) in health and fitness that I always get an efficient and effective workout. Each workout is different than the last so it never gets boring. She also always has an answer or solution for any diet question or goal I have. Plus she's just a really great person, motivator, and story teller. I highly recommend her!

I should start by saying that I do not pay to workout anywhere as a rule and was invited to a free class of Maria's almost 2 years ago. I've never looked back. She makes working out fun and challenging and pushes you in a positive way as opposed to making things uncomfortable. Maria is always looking for new ways to challenge her classes and keeps the lines of communication open so we all feel comfortable discussing what we are doing.
Maria knows a lot about fitness and nutrition and is happy to share her knowledge to help others live a healthy life. I love her and Fitness Unleashed.

Ok – let’s be honest. I started bootcamp because I wanted to lose weight. No other reasons, just pure vanity. Little did I know that not only would the pounds melt off, but that I would genuinely look forward to working out and feel so good on the inside! Maria is awesome. Her dedication to clients, amazing upbeat attitude and plethora of fitness knowledge is incomparable. If the gym environment just isn’t your thing, then Fitness Unleashed is.

I have been participating in Maria's boot camp for just a year. I have really enjoyed the workouts and the camaraderie. It is a place that no matter your fitness level you will be challenged and supported. I just recently turned 40 and thanks to the weekly workouts my body feels ten years younger.

Response by MARIA LUQUE on Sep 26, 2010

Minerva, you are the perfect example that even only once per week resistance training can show results if done consistently. You just have to stick with it. Thanks for your continued support!
