I am a recent graduate of the dual Master's program at San Diego State University in Exercise Physiology and Nutritional Sciences, as well as the Fitness Lead at the Aztec Recreation Center. Some of the career goals that I wish to accomplish as a result include nutritional education outreach, in adults and youth, to combat obesity; weight loss consultation; recreation management, and/or personal training. My undergraduate background is in Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics, which I chose in order to lay a thorough foundation for what I truly wanted to study: nutrition. I also completed minors in physiology, nutritional sciences, and mathematics.
I began teaching fitness classes in January of 2010, starting with TurboKick. I then received my Zumba license and was offered the opportunity to start teaching a core conditioning class, in addition to hip hop, as well as a step aerobics class with integrated muscle conditioning intervals (Calorie KO, Lean and Mean, Cardio Sculpt, Step and Strength, S.E.T.). I went on to receive my group fitness certification through the American Council on Exercise and began to teach strength training classes (Tone and Sculpt, Total Body Conditioning), BoSU, high intensity interval training, and Boot Camp. Since then, I have also completed certifications in Bokwa, Spinning, U-Jam, BodyAttack, PiYo, Aerobics and Fitness Association of America, and Insanity. I have had the opportunity to attend trainings for Pilates and Aqua as well. I have taught and subbed at many gyms in the Tucson, Arizona and San Diego, California areas. I have also taught private classes at special events, such as a joint TurboKick/Zumba class for 200 students for Sorority Wellness Week, Residence Life, Bellezza Modeling, Zumba blacklight party, Zumbathons (for Autism awareness, as well as for heart health), children's summer camp, group fitness exhibitions and demonstrations, and grand opening events.
I exhibit my passion for health and wellness in every class that I teach. I spread my energy throughout all of my participants, and make them feel comfortable and excited to be at the gym by getting to know them personally before class starts. I have worked with a wide spectrum of ages, ability, and physical activity levels, from youth as young as 5 years old to retired adults (age 85), and everything in between. I tailor every workout to each participant by providing a diverse array of high and low impact and intensity modifications that sufficiently challenge and empower them. Finally, I feel that I am very relatable, especially because I have personally lost 30 pounds, mainly through group fitness classes. If you have any questions for me, please feel free to reach out; I would love to get in touch with you!

I took Liana's TurboKick and Zumba classes for about a year. She is a fantastic instructor that gives great energy, making the class participants more motivated to give 100% during the workouts. What takes Liana from being a great to spectacular instructor is how she teaches. She articulates each move verbally and physically with such precision that any level of fitness can understand and follow to get the ultimate workout. She is a person that doesn't show you how to change your lifestyle with exercise, but more of a motivation to want to change your lifestyle.

I had the pleasure of private and group at home classes with Liana and they were just what we wanted. She was able to quickly assess each one's individual abilities and adapt exercises to our needs. We got a personalized, yet thorough workout! I have been to Zumba classes where I had no clue what was going on, but Liana provides clear instructions and keeps everyone involved.

Liana will be sorely missed at Platinum gym. I have been taking turbo kick from her for at least a year and she is amazing! She gets to know each of us and offers great options for many different levels of fitness. I totally agree with Josh- she works you hard and yet you come away from her classes smiling. We will miss you Liana!

Liana is a very dedicated fitness instructor. She is always willing to help patrons out with any questions that they have and makes herself available to the best of her ability. When taking her classes, I most enjoy her knowledge of fitness, which she shares with the class, as well as her encouragement. It is easy to see Liana's passion for fitness; her enthusiasm is contagious.

I have felt lost and frustrated in group fitness classes before, but that is never the case in Liana's classes. She keeps it active and engaging, so I'm never confused, but also never bored. Before long, I find myself dripping with sweat with a huge smile on my face. Liana really makes a personal conection with the people that attend her class. She's terrific!
