I might describe Jenn as “divine intervention”. After 8 years of study, including a 200 page dissertation, I needed help regaining strength—especially to tackle the weeds that had overtaken my garden.

Jenn was the first, and only, fitness trainer I tried. I was lucky! I met her in May 2015 and was relieved by her encouragement, sense of humor, and knowledge. She asked me about short and long term fitness goals. I told her I wanted to haul 20-30 lb. bags of compost, mulch, and dirt around the yard—activities I could do before 8 years of graduate school—and she didn’t even laugh (or at least not out loud.)

It really is hard to describe how weak I had become and the overwhelming hill that Jennifer helped me climb. We met (and continue to meet) once a week. Each week she changes my routine and “homework”. She has introduced tabata training, various weight machines, barbell workouts, exercise balls, and exercise bands. If there is a tool, she knows how to use it. Some of the other participants at the fitness center have affirmed my gain in strength and shared how they have incorporated some of the exercises Jenn has taught me into their own routines. (Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery!)

I also have never been hurt by following Jennifer’s instruction. Yes, I had some muscle soreness, but I never pulled/strained a muscle or broke a bone. I have heard friends and co-workers talk about other trainers and injuries caused by their instruction. I am grateful for Jen’s attention. She gently corrects my posture, shows me how to hold the weight correctly, and teaches me which muscle is being used when it isn’t obvious. Jennifer recognizes when to adjust an exercise because it is too hard or to avoid an exercise because it is too challenging for my skill level. That doesn’t mean a “lesser” workout, she simply has the knowledge to find another way for a client to move forward.

While I have consistently avoided answering Jennifer’s questions about long term goals, Jennifer constantly brings to our conversations ideas about nutrition, recipes, cardio goals, and weight-loss. Education and motivation are at the heart of Jennifer’s work. Jenn truly cares about her clients’ progress, health, and happiness.

About a year ago my local park district teamed me up with a personal trainer named Jennifer (Jenn) Voss. Since then I've lost 60 pounds, toned up, have more energy, and no longer, to my wife's delight, snore. Jenn is professional, personable and a great motivator. She helps you define your fitness goals and she develops workout programs to achieve them. She constantly challenges you, but knows when to ease back on the throttle. If you're looking for a great personal trainer, I strongly recommend Jenn.
