I began my education at the University of Northern Colorado in 1992. My plans to major in Psychology were completely set aside once I discovered my love for Anatomy and Physiology. The understanding of how the body worked internally as well as externally was the education that I felt would benefit me most. I went on to attain a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology. Upon completing my degree, one of the requirements was to fulfill a 400 hour internship. I chose Cardiac Rehabilitation at Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs as my focus in Kinesiology.
My rotations included:
* Electrophysiology Testing Center
* Physical Therapy
* Monitor and telemetry of cardiovascular rhythms, consistent monitoring of blood pressure, ECG, and heart rate.
After graduating, I was accepted to participate in a second internship at The Fitness Institute in Scottsdale. Once I realized how the concepts and applications were so different than all the facilities I had observed, I was sold. The idea of applying a program that utilized corrective exercise therapy and proper nutrition to attain an individual’s goal made the most sense to me. Over the past 10 years, I have witnessed our clientele lower cholesterol, triglycerides, blood sugar, increase lean mass and lose weight on a consistent basis. We have also been successful in creating programs to help people who have back, knee, shoulder, hip or neck issues. In my internship, I was able to view the after effect of living an unhealthy lifestyle. I realized that a person can prevent many diseases with proper nutrition and exercise. It is my goal to help people prevent those ill effects before they come about. In furthering my education, I went on to attain an MBA with an emphasis in Health Care Management and a Certification as a Specialist in Performance Nutrition and Certified Fitness Trainer through the International Sports Science Association. I am also certified through the National Strength and Conditioning Association as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist.
