Denny Pinch

Washington, DC 20005

Denny Pinch has served as the Assistant Director of Fitness at the Army Navy Country Club Fitness Center since March, 2003. He is a Certified Personal Trainer through ACE, Certified Corrective Exercise Specialist through NASM, The Biomechanics Method, and the Functional Movement System, Certified Golf Fitness Specialist through NASM, Certified Senior Fitness Specialist through NASM, Certified Running Fitness Instructor through ASFA,and Sports Medicine Suspension Training, TRX.

Working one-on-one with members, Denny’s objective is to help each person to achieve their individual fitness goals. He utilizes a combination of the foam roller, Swiss Ball, BOSU, TRX Suspension Training System, dumbbells, Cybex machines, and even furniture sliders to create a variety of interesting, fun, and challenging workout programs to “torture” his clients. He specializes in helping clients to improve their general overall level of fitness, lose weigh utilizing the Biometrics Nutrition and Fitness Program, and prepare people for distance races from ten miles through the marathon.

As a Corrective Exercise Specialist, Denny can perform a movement analysis for his clients to identify the presence of muscle imbalances. He then will design an exercise program to help clients learn to inhibit and stretch over active tight muscles, strengthen under active weak muscles, and teach the muscles to work together properly with integration exercises. The result will be to prevent or reduce pain in areas such as the low back, hips, IT band, knees, foot and ankle, and shoulders.

As a Certified Golf Fitness Specialist, Denny can identify muscle imbalances which inhibit the golf swing and teach exercises to help correct these imbalances. Then he will design an exercise program to help clients improve their golf game by improving flexibility, core strength, balance, and power.

Denny also has many years of experience coaching marathon training programs for several charities in the DC area. An avid runner since high school, he earned varsity letters while competing in both cross-country and track at Hickory Senior High School in Hermitage, Pa. As a senior, he ran in the mile, the two mile, and a leg in the two mile rely. He represented Hickory by running the mile in the Pennsylvania District 10 Track and Field Finals. His personal record for the mile is 4:48 minutes. He continued his running career at Thiel College in Greenville, Pa. Denny was a four-year varsity letterman in cross-country and served as one of the team’s tri-captains during his senior year. He has completed 15 marathons and five half marathons. His personal record for the marathon is 3 hours 42 minutes and his fastest half marathon is 1 hour and 20 minutes. Denny has coached marathon training programs for the Jeff Galloway Marathon Training Program, the National AIDS Marathon Training Program, Strides Against MS Marathon Training Program, TEAM Diabetes Marathon Training Program, and Train to End Stroke Marathon Training Program.

As a long standing member of Army Navy Country Club, I seldom used the Fitness Center. I had been very athletic all of my life, played several sports seriously, and never had any problems. However, it became apparent that I was encountering some mobility and posture issues, and needed a corrective program in order to lead a healthy, active lifestyle. As a result, I contacted the ANCC Fitness Center about engaging a personal trainer. How fortunate it was that Dennis Pinch returned my call. We had an interview and I signed up for ten sessions. Since I am nearing the end of my second set of ten, I am signing up for more. Working with Dennis has been more beneficial that I ever could have imagined.

I highly recommend Dennis as a personal trainer. He is very personable, a professional, with outstanding credentials, and has the knowledge, competency, and patience to work effectively with me. His soft, quiet demeanor, positive attitude, and encouragement, is forthcoming, and highly appreciated. Knowing I was experiencing these strength, flexibility, and posture issues, he was not only able to diagnosis my weaknesses and needs, but also he planned a corrective program that has enabled me to show significant improvement. This is evidenced by the fact that when I had a recent annual physical, my physician and I were pleased and surprised that I was one half an inch taller. I am grateful to have Dennis as my personal trainer, and ANCC is also very fortunate to have him on their Fitness Staff, as a personal trainer and as their Assistant Director. Anyone contemplating an exercise program should contact Dennis Pinch.

I have been struggling with my knee pain for long time to the point that I couldn't do certain exercises such as doing squats. The pain was always below my knees on the inner side felt like a bruised. After talking to Denny he showed me the exercise which would make my quads stronger was suggested. I felt the difference within the first time and I continued doing every other day for 2 weeks. If my pain level was 10 before this exercise by Denny now is around 4. I'm so glad that I followed his advice and I'm grateful for ever for great advice.

Denny is an extremely knowledgeable and competent trainer. He set up a corrective exercise program for me which greatly improved my mobility and reduced pain and tightness in neck, back, and legs. I made significant and long-lasting progress during sessions with Denny. Very helpful, great to work with....very highly recommended.

Denny has worked with me for several weeks and I have seen a significant reduction in tightness in my back and legs. This is improving my overall flexibility and comfort.

I've been working with Denny for a relatively short time but can already sense the benefits of his guidance. He is is exceptionally effective in identifying muscle imbalances through a short (and painless) movement assessment, and prescribing stretches and exercises to inhibit overly tight muscles and/or activate those muscle groups that have "taken a break" for awhile. I am especially excited that he is a certified golf fitness specialist, as improving my golf swing is a primary objective. I would highly recommend Denny to anyone looking to enhance their strength, flexibility and movement. Plus, he's a good guy and makes it fun!
