Description

Small-group and partner training is an appealing option for clients who want personal attention in a budget-friendly class. And, by designing specialized training that fosters partner cooperation, teamwork and fun, you have an opportunity to attract new clients who like to work out with friends.


This five-part program provides you with new ways to energize your fitness training techniques for your small-group and partner clients. Learn new circuits, partner drills, obstacle courses and varied equipment options that will help your groups feel strong, athletic and confident.

  • Learn how to safely and effectively integrate high-intensity interval training into group circuit training.
  • Discover new ideas for improving exercise adherence and member retention.
  • Define and differentiate coaching and price structures for private, partner and small-group training options.
  • Identify the different organizational options coaches can use to flow partners through a workout.
  • Name the benefits of partner training for coaches, clients and your business.
  • Summarize the key reasons why gamification strategies are effective.
  • Build functional fitness workouts for athletes of all levels using medicine ball exercises and drills that will keep group training clients feeling empowered and excited to attend your sessions.
  • Design class strategies that incorporate obstacle courses.
  • Learn the specific perceptual motor and fundamental movement skills targeted by various obstacle-course challenges.
  • Execute critical teaching and coaching points necessary for safe participation in obstacle courses.
  • Design a multistation cardio-strength circuit training workout using a variety of small studio equipment.
  • Learn the physiological benefits of combining cardio training and strength training in the same workout session.
  • Create a variety of cardiovascular exercise activities that can be used in a multistation circuit training workout.
  • Choose appropriate instructional cuing that should be used while teaching a multistation cardio-strength circuit training workout.

The recipient of the 2007 IDEA Fitness Instructor of the Year Award, Fred holds a Master’s Degree in Health Education from Boston University and has over thirty years of experience in the fitness and health industry. Fred is a member of the Board of Directors of the American Council on Exercise (ACE) and from 2013 to 2016 he served as a member of the ACE Industry Advisory Panel. Fred’s expertise has taken him to nearly 50 countries on six continents to speak at more than 200 conferences and conventions. In 2001 he was elected to the International Who's Who of Professionals. Brett Klika is the director of athletic performance at Fitness Quest 10 in San Diego, California. He specializes in youth fitness and athletic performance. Brett oversees a staff of eight strength coaches and develops program for over 300 youth athletes (and non-athletes) per week. He is a regular contributor for a variety of publications, produces DVDs on fitness and athletic performance and presents around the world.
