The Breast Cancer Recovery BOSU® Specialist Advanced Qualification was developed for health and fitness professionals seeking to attain a higher level of mastery and work with breast cancer patients during and after cancer surgery and treatment and into survivorship. Participants will gain a complete understanding of the entire breast cancer process from diagnosis and treatment to reconstruction and survivorship. This unique and individualized programming will help to improve the patient’s ability to cope with the mental and physical stress following cancer diagnosis and treatment. Using the BOSU® Balance Trainer, participants will learn how to prescribe corrective exercises for muscle imbalances and range of motion deviations, as well as exercises to promote lymph drainage.
The coursework is founded on collaboration with the chiefs of breast surgery at Georgetown, George Washington, and Johns’ Hopkins University Hospital Medical Centers, and developed by Andrea Leonard, 36-year cancer survivor, 2019 PFP Personal Trainer of the Year, author of “Essential Exercises for Breast Cancer Survivors,” ACE Certified Personal Trainer, NASM Corrective Exercise Specialist and Performance Enhancement Specialist, and President/Founder of the Cancer Exercise Training Institute.
Coursework research began in 1995 and is now in the 3rd edition with updated research added annually.

"…I just wanted to thank you for allowing me to be a part of what you are doing in the cancer world. I have, to-date, received 21 referrals and can't believe the impact we can have on someone’s life…After 24 years in the fitness industry, I once again feel as I am making a difference in my clients lives. It's so empowering to work with people that do NOT take everyday for granted and are motivated to improve every aspect of their remaining time. As selfish as this may sound, I feel that I am getting as much if not more out of this than my clients." Robert Reed III Certified Personal Trainer
"…Your course has been invaluable to me. I am currently working with a client that about five years ago had a bilateral TRAM. Her surgeon basically told her she could not do any type of exercise. She is making strides now and is not as fearful about doing the exercise protocol that I learned from your course." Benita Conway Personal Trainer
"…As a speech therapist I was really taking this class for my own knowledge regarding lymphedema and exercise; as I see head and neck cancer patients…Your class was very informative and I learned a lot… I really think it helped a lot of nurses and trainers realize that exercise is so important for cancer patients both possibly prior to, during chemo radiation (at least for our head and neck patients)…" Linda Tyler MA, CCC-SLP"As a naturopathic doctor, I employ a variety of natural therapies such as…While these therapies can be quite restorative and effective in stabilizing victims of cancer, my practice will now take on a new perspective now that I’ve completed your program. You have elevated the role of exercise and cancer survival to a level that nobody else has, and your ability to communicate this message is superb… Every trainer, physical and occupational therapist should be armed with this critical information…" Glenn B. Gero Naturopathic Doctor "I have been using my certification for the last couple years and I have met and worked with probably 75-100 cancer survivors! Not a day goes by that one of them doesn't thank me for what I am doing!" Jeri Lau Certified Personal Trainer
