Pets and Empty Nesting What pet is right for you

If you have adult sons or daughters leaving home, ( finally) or you need somebody besides yourself to love-- why not get a pet? You may want to start with pet sitting or walking a neighbor's dog, to get used to an increased active lifestyle. Fostering dogs or cats could be another baby step to a big commitment. Consider calling ahead to plan a visit to your local rescue shelter. There are pets eagerly waiting for new homes. Pets give comfort and keep us active as we age gracefully. Make sure you don't get a pet that is so heavy that it becomes a hazard to walk or if you have to carry them. I love all dogs--I always remember my big and beautiful German Shepherd, Ginger. Presently, Bark Starr, ( named for Packer's legendary Quarterback Bart Starr) is a 20 lb. pug that follows me everywhere all day long-- and I love it! Just think about it as giving and receiving a great gift.

Got Balance?

Balance is important for your sense of wellbeing and also for your physical fitness. At Triton Fitness Gym the personal trainers create a 'no two workouts are the same' for their clients. You work on agility. balance and coordination in every class. You do not have to be great at balance-- it is something you work on every day as you reach up to a tall shelf for a dish, or you are walking your dog that pulls you when it sees another Fido, and you don't want to fall, or when you ride your bike. Balance is also achieved by varying your strength and nutrition and endurance routines. This will also improve your cognition--your memory, your 'sharpness'. So to recap. balance is important for everyone no matter your age or fitness level. It will permeate your work, your play and maybe make a positive impact on someone else!

Health Coach: Let Me Coach You to Wellness!

What is a health coach? As your health coach I will be your wellness co-pilot. We will work together to develop a customized plan that takes your individual physical, emotional and lifestyle factors into account and fits with the way you live – and ultimately leads you to permanent, positive change.

Why do I need a health coach? Almost daily you are bombarded with diet and fitness fads that show up on TV, social media, magazines and even from your family, friends, fitness guru’s at the gym or coworkers. All these new suggestions seem, ‘too good to be true’ –but they are promoted on TV, endorsed in magazines and by fitness professionals. However, some fad diets, supplements, or exercise plans are downright dangerous, and “one size does not fit all’. They can have negative side effects that are just not worth compromising your health. Professionally trained as a health coach, I will help you to develop a plan that sustains your body as it gets it to a healthier state. I am part of your wellness team. This wellness team should include your doctor(s), family, buddy, and anyone else that you want to support your goals. Most primary care physicians know that nutrition, stress reduction, weight management and exercise are important, but not all of them know about specific wellness, exercise, and nutrition practices. Few health care providers are able to offer their patients, (you), specific recommendations much beyond “lose some weight,” or “eat more salads.” As health coach, I will help you ‘dive deep’, or ‘drill down’ and identify the best overall techniques to improve your overall quality of life, and hopefully reduce, get rid of, or minimize any problems that have plagued you for years.

What’s in it for me? Changing long-held unhealthy or negative behaviors, beliefs and attitudes is challenging. Making big changes can also be a lonely road and a bit daunting – but not if you have (me), your health coach! I will partner with you, hold your hand, and guide you on your path. I will keep you accountable and help you set realistic goals that set you up for success not feelings of failure. You can trade in those old habits for new healthy habits.

Are you ready for some football?

Are you a fan of professional football? I am.  Preseason is nearly completed--and the 2019 season begins in a few short weeks!  This year consider getting up off that couch during the halftime and move your body.  You could rake a few leaves, go for a short walk, do some stretching, throw the football with someone(s).  And if you watch football on Sunday, Monday and Thursday...well you are already on your way to working out three times per week.   ...for your team schedule.
