I think that "functional training" continues to be in vogue. What that term means and how it is applied seems to be continually evolving.

Combat fitness has been developing in popularity a lot over this year and I only see that trend continuing. This year alone I have incorporated training awareness and readiness, should a combative situation arise, for at least 60% more clients than I did in years past. Last year was a heavy rise in this demand as well but has been dwarfed by the number of requests this year. Maybe its the constant televising of combat sports (Like the UFC), or maybe the world just seems more violent... Or maybe the word has spread that my teachings have a precedence?.. Yeah, I like the sound of that. I'm gong with the "Its all cause of me" answer!
Hi Camila,
the word I hear more and more is 'fascia'. Fascinating for me as a MELT instructor - MELT stands for Myofascial Energetic Length Technique. I have been introduced to MELT 3 years ago at an IDEA convention and became certified the same year.
Even though fascia had been mentioned before by some, it has really taken off in more and more sessions at IDEA World 2012. In addition to MELT, I would give the ViPR training a nod for a new trend for 2013 as well.
Great question.

I have noticed that trainers are more then just teaching moves. We are considered a friend at a certain point. I also noticed a huge increase in foam roll usage and cross-fit/functional movements.

The ACSM 2013 trends survey hasn't gone out yet, however, I would guess that one of the trends is exercise programming for the obese.
Hello Camila,
What I see happening in my area, is people exercising with co-workers before heading home. This is done on a break or soon after clocking out. The person who leads the effort is usually the deciding factor on the activity: biking, yoga, etc.
Note: stay-at-home parents fit into the co-workers group.
Take care.
