The best advice I have for anyone working with diabetics is to keep an eye on their blood sugar levels. Your clients should have tested their blood sugar prior to exercising to determine if they are safe to exercise or if they need something to raise or lower their blood sugar prior to exercise.

Keep in mind that cardio generally lowers blood sugar levels, while strength training generally raises blood sugar levels.

A resource that I found is a book called, "The Diabetic Athlete" by Sheri Colberg, PhD. She covers a variety of sports and advice on blood sugar, medication, and nutrition for over 86 different sporting activities. Good read!

Are we taking diabetes type I or diabetes type II. What type of medication are they taking. Is the diabetes under control or not?
Do you understand the exercise response as it relates to diabetes?

I think it might a good idea to visit www.acsm.org and read their position stands on Diabetes and Exercise. You will find it very informative.

Thanks for a great question!

Exercise is good for diabetes patient, helpful in managing sugar level, but check your sugar level before exercise and never work out when sugar level is low, it can be dangerous. Diabetes is well managed by proper diet, medicines and simple exercise like walking. The diabetes medicines in Ayurveda are very effective, Ayurveda is the oldest method of diabetes control and they are really safe.

Pretty much all exercise modes are compatible with diabetes. But consistency is the most important factor in any exercise program.
