Hi Rebecca,
It is difficult to specifically advise you on that since we are not there to evaluate you. However, for weight loss, you want to take a look at your nutrition first since the majority of your weight loss will occur with a change in your eating habits. Exercise, both cardio and strength training, are necessary as well--but are more of a "supplement" to changes in your eating habits. You may want to contact a Registered Dietician for a complete evaluation and meal plan specific to your needs.
I would reconsider the swimming..... My first thought for you would be to find a facility with a pool for swimming. Swimming is wonderful cardiovascular work and very easy on your joints--in your case your feet.
You will find the combination of a healthy, clean diet and exercise together are the best thing for weight loss. Small, healthy changes in your habits can lead to big health benefits.
Best to you and good luck.
Christine

Weight loss is about food intake rather than exercise.
Don't get me wrong, there are MANY benefits to exercising but in order to lose weight you must take a look at your food choices.
Daily swimming would be great along with resistance training.
It would be great if you could find a personal trainer / health coach to work with you to formulate a plan.

OK, I read the part about you not having easy, consistent, access to a swimming pool.
Do you have access to a bicycle, or a stationary cycle? If you have a regular bike, there are kits that will convert your bicycle into a stationary bike by slightly lifting the back wheel. Then you could pedal a bike without the full weight of your body on your foot.
I do agree with others who have written that examining your food intake will make a huge impact on your weight loss.

My best advice to you is to visit with a trainer and have her/him do an assessment on you and then provide you with a fitness program/plan specific to your needs. Since we don't know you it would be very difficult to give you any helpful suggestions without any proper assessment. The other think you might want to consider is to schedule a visit with a dietitian and have her/him help you with a dietary plan that is customized for you.
Cardio/strength and swimming are all great, but they will be more effective if they are done with persistency and they are also specifically customized for you personally.
I hope this helps.

I recommend you try rebounding :) My neuropathy clients really enjoy it and have great sucess!
Hello Rebecca Ray,
I agree with eating well and finding a trainer to design a balanced exercise program for you. Have you tried myofascial release for the feet? You may do well on a bicycle; try different pieces of equipment at a fitness supply to see what works for you.
Take care,
Natalie aka NAPS 2 B Fit.

Hi Rebecca, I would certainly agree with my colleagues that sorting out a proper nutritional plan would be the first place to start. Look up a local dietician or nutritional therapist to help you with this.
For your fitness, engaging the services of a personal trainer will pay real dividends as he/she will be able to meet with you and do a full assessment of your needs and also be able to advise you on your nutritional needs.
I wish you the best of luck

I know you want to stay home, but unless you have swimming pool or are willing/able to afford an "endless pool", I recommend going to a local rec center or municipal pool and doing aquatic exercise. There is no better exercise for people with issues such as yours. Are you feet in good condition otherwise? Be careful with cuts and abrasions when you do any type of exercise. Be sure to tell your doctor of your plans as well.
Hello Rebecca,
my colleagues made some good suggestions. The one thing I like to add is my experience with clients with neuropathy. There is such a thing as the MELT Foot Treatment, and you may get relief through it for your neuropathy. As I said, I have had success with clients doing just that, and that may enable you to be more active and thus add to your weight loss success.
Good luck.

It's always nice to combine both nutrition and exercise into a weight loss program whenever possible, but that doesn't mean you can't lose the weight if exercise isn't an option. In fact, the largest percentage of weight loss is a result of a well-structured diet. Yes, exercise will give you an added benefit of burning calories and building muscle, but it doesn't compare to what can be achieved through proper nutrition. Given your symptoms and limitations that occur with the neuropathy, I would focus on your nutrition first and perhaps incorporate some beginner resistance training, using bands while in a seated position. You may want to speak with your doctor about your options and perhaps he can refer you to a registered dietitian. It is possible that as you lose weight you may find improvement in your medical condition which will allow you more exercise options down the road.
Best of luck to you!

How are things going? Have you tried any of the suggestions? Remember to take it slow and not do too much too soon. If you update your question occasionally, it will help us give more focused advice.
