I have used online training in the past, and found it to be useful and helpful with certain clients. I don't think it's for everyone (particularly beginner clients) and so, I would try to steer certain clients away from this type of training if they asked my opinion.

I can only envision this with clients I know well through one-on-one training and who have moved away.
Since I take quite a bit of time screening my clients, I have found that there are always compensations of which the client was not even aware but which needed to be addressed in the exercise program. How this could be done remotely, I would not know.

I currently use google docs to program a few online clients. I offer this to my experienced clients who are familiar with the exercises I on the program I design.

I use it as an adjunct with some clients but not all. They would have had to have progressed to a proficient level of movement for me to suggest that they utilize it.
If it is primarily for cardiorespiratory training, food logging and tracking of progress, I think it is a useful tool. For resistance training, I utilize it for clients who have a good sense of body awareness.

Debbie, I to train some clients online. The challenge is often to keep some of them on top of their check-ins. Personally, I request photo updates as well as weight, overall sense of well-being, and any change in goals if it is for weight-loss or bodybuilding-type preparation. It is not a difficult thing to do as long as the communication is open, you are willing to set the time aside to really consider your remote-clients' needs, and you're not trying to cookie-cutter design their programs.
Does anyone here use any of the online services that charge monthly or yearly that offer the online software and your own web page to conduct online coaching?
Yes Debbie. I use www.hfpn.com as well as www.wellcoaches. I hold certifications through both organizations.

Thank you Joanne & Shawn.
I am looking at TrainerForce.com which seems to be less pricey than hyperstrike. I saw an ad for them in the PFP publication

I am currently offering free workout challenges through my Facebook page and have had good luck using that to attract clients. Only problem with that is FB's new "Top News" squeezes me out of people's news feed and they miss seeing my challenge exercise posts...
I've trained clients online in the past with the longest one being around a year online (after 2 years in the gym). Online training requires extreme dedication from the client. Adherence was reduced significantly online. I've tried numerous incentives, but without the one on one interaction, it's very difficult. The other difficulty was introducing new exercises. I ended up sending 1-2 minute demos of new exercises I wanted to introduce since finding high quality youtube.com videos was difficult.
Hope this helps!

As much as we are all connected electronically there is nothing that compares to human interaction
I use myfitnesspal to follow my clients progress but as of now personal training for me is done personally.

I use Skype for clients who live in a different state or country. I currently train clients in Europe and it has worked very well for me. It's a little more challenging than training face-to-face, but so far all of my clients are responding well to this method. I do 1-1 and small groups of 6-8 people thru Skype. It's not my preferred method of training clients, but sometimes it a necessary tool.
