Question asked by patricia gavilan 3536 days ago

I am a pilates master instructors trainer, How can I get accredited the certification we give?

AccreditationCertificationsPilates

My name is Patricia Gavilan, I am a Medical Technologist since 1980 and since 2002 I am Stott pilates certified instructor. In 2005 I founded EIS pilates Mind & Body Fitness Center and I wrote my own Pilates Manual in order to train students for pilates instructor and our course was approved by ACE around the same year. Since then more than 500 students have taken the course, called CURSO EIS PILATES EN SUELO NIVEL BÁSICO E INTERMEDIO (EIS PILATES MAT COURSE BASIC AND INTERMEDIATE LEVEL). This is a 40 hours course and after completion if the students want to be certified as a pilates instructors they have to take 60 hours of personal practice, teaching practice and observation practice and they finally have to take a written and a practical exam. They have 6 months after the course to study and then to take the exams and to approve the exam they have to score 70% or more. The written exam is of 40 multiple- choice questions and 8 essay questions, as practical exam they have to conduct a pilates class and the topics to assess are:
1. Fashion and energy with which the instructor teaches, effective communication (verbal and visual) to keep the student motivated
2. Application of the kinetic principles.
3. Ability to recognize the body alignment and proper execution of exercises, conducted properly.
4. use of imagination, verbal instruction, visual and tactile
5. knowledge of the exercises (patterns of movement, breathing in every exercise and adaptation of the exercises with appropriate modifications)
6. Fluency and rhythm of the class (transitions from one exercises to another, keep the exercise challenging without the student losing the position)

I need that you understand that the course meet high standard of exigency, I mean the student has to be able to conduct a class which is safe and beneficial for his or her students.
My question we need that the certification that we are giving is accredited for NOCA or other agency, so we would appreciate your advice in order to do it.

Hi Patricia,

That's a great question. It's nice to see that you have such high standards and want to set your Pilates training program apart from others with the credibility that accreditation will lend to it.

First, to be clear, please know that IDEA is neither an accrrediting body nor a certificatation agency. We work wtih many of these organizations, but we don't assume either role in the fitness industry.

However, this information might help you. When we created IDEA FitnessConnect last year, IDEA focused its verification efforts for all professionals in the platform on four accreditation agencies. These four are a good place for you to start asking questions about protocols for applying for and being considered for accreditation: The National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA); the Distance Education and Training Council (DETC); the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA); and the US Department of Education.

Has anyone else out there undergone accreditation who could shed more light on this for Patricia?

I have been teaching Pilates for around 7 years now and obtained my Certifications through The Pilates Coach and Bender Training Academy and became a Master Trainer for them. They have just partnered with the NAFC (National Association of Fitness Certifications), so maybe you could check them out as I believe this to be one of the best functional Pilates programs out there. Good luck and I hope this helps a little!
