Maybe I don't completely understand the question, but isn't group cycling just another form of group exercise or training? If it is, I'm not sure what the basis would be to pay the instructor more unless of course it was based on experience, reputation etc. That being said, perhaps because Spinning is a specific trademarked certification, the instructor could/would be paid more simply because of the laws of supply and demand.

It really depends on the gym. A gym with multiple class types may pay a specialty instructor more. A highly successful spinning studio (those with waiting lists), will often pay more than a gym or health club.
If they are, it is not by much. Nowadays, there is a specialty certification for many classes. The fact that an additional certification is required was - at least at the club with whom I am associated - the rationale for a higher pay.
I believe it depends on the type of gym/studio you work at....I have seen gyms that pay GX instructors the same as spin instructors (and even consider spin classes as part of GX because it is still a group lead class where you need a certification to teach), but I have also seen spin instructors get paid more if they are specifically working in a cycle studio only.
Generally, it is the same hourly rate, for the same chain of gyms. However, if it is a popular instructor and the gym has hired the instructor to boost membership, they gym will have to pay the instructor more than they pay their other instructors.
Gyms has operating budgets and generally operate within those limits.

In the gyms I've worked at you get paid the same regardless of the class you teach. Different gyms and venues pay different rates however ;)
In one studio I am paid less for circuit classes than spin classes. All of the classes are 45 min. to 1 hour, but because there is more prep time for spin classes, we get paid more.
I've heard pay is all over the place. Some Instructors at YMCA's volunteer (0.00 per hour up to this place which is paying up to $500 a class http://www.indoorcycleinstructor.com/icipro-instructor-training/podcasts...
Most facilities pay spin as a group instructor. Instructors are usually paid according to their class size and revenue brought in at most private facilities. Public facilities usually have a pay rate schedule for instructors according a variety of factors.
But an excellent instructor can usually ask for the highest market pay at most facilities or easily shop for a better deal.
