Any trainers equip their clients with wearable trackers (fitbit/jawbone up)? Would love to hear your experience!

How are you using the info from the wearable to help train your clients? Do they help clients progress? How do your clients like them? Any issues?

I encourage my clients to use a pedometer or fitbit type of tracker. Most who have done so have enjoyed the feedback, though one stopped wearing it because she was too discouraged at how much she needed to do to get in 10,000 steps. Of course I tried to emphasize that she did not need to start at 10,000, that her goal could be 5,000 at first, but the gap seemed too immense for her. My other clients have enjoyed it. One uses the fitbit with her friends, and they have a mini competition to see who can get the most steps. That works as a good motivator for her.

All of my health coaching clients wear pedometors
They are not nearly as sophisticated as the ones you list but they get the job done!

I think fit bit is good but there have been some discrepancies and issues with syncing.

I've had a few clients who did use the fitbit and they loved it. It was more for them (not for me although I found them useful as well) and to help them track mostly their daily caloric expenditure. For me it was interesting to see how many calories actually they burnt on each workout....(fun stuff)
:-).

Hi Aerick,
Yes! I highly encourage my cliets to purchase a HRM that holds saves past workouts. If they are more data savvy, then I will go with the client and help them choose the right peice of equipment for them.
You have to understand, there are a few reasons why I do this with my client;
1- The client has a better understanding of rated percived exertion and their heart rate
2- The data gives feed back and allows the client and trainer to progress accordingly
3- Lasty, if your client can't get to the gym, you can always give them other work that works with the HRM.

Good luck,
#shlomotrained

I encourage my clients to wear Heart Rate Monitors, then we track the progress from week to week between the workout programs. Which in theory would show how much effort they put in.. To me its just another way for them to compete against them self.
